What to do during a storm

If a storm is on its way, now is the time to really batten down the hatches.

ACTIVITY

If a storm is on its way, now is the time to really batten down the hatches.

  • Secure anything that could blow away or cause damage.
  • Move pets and animals to a safe shelter.
  • Move vehicles under cover.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed and stay away from the windows.
  • Avoid contact with anything metal.
  • If there is lightning do not use landline telephones and unplug appliances to prevent damage from power surges.
  • If outdoors, find shelter and stay out of the water, avoiding natural lightning rods such as tall trees, or isolated structures in open areas.
  • If driving, slow down or even park your vehicle, do not drive into water – it may be deeper than it appears.
